The OEM cast 4L80E and 4L85E aluminum servo pistons can be brittle and are prone to breaking. The Sonnax heavy duty low-reverse servo piston, 34914-02 for GM 1996-up 4L80-E transmissions is a direct replacement upgrade made from high-strength, billet aluminum to prevent failure.

The 4L80E and its variants can be identified by the 17-bolt oil pan and 4 forward gears. Typically, this transmission is found in the heavier duty trucks and vans; mostly the 2500 and 3500 series.  It will also be found in the heavy half-ton, such as the 1500HD, SS, or Denali truck with the 6.0L
